Big Momma

I just found the irony of Tyler Perry’s caricature of the big black mammy that is Madea. There are a lot of parallels to Euripedes’ Medea

In fact too many

Ya see, the mad black wom’n is very particular and very abstract, no harsh none. Madea, had  madness all up in ha, revenge, “all my life I had to fight”ness

The black wom’n is mocked of that, the guns and dey ammo, all funny and laughs, yet nun of ya  care

We die

Medea LIVES, kills ha chillen, sets off on her fiery chariot, with ha dead chillen in tow But Beloved? The FIEND. The madness that grows within Seth to protect ha chillen  Dem whytes murda they chillen and dey seen as royalty and what do the black wom’n We die

See King Rameses said that he will not be the weakest link in his Egyptian chain and ya know He die

But big black mammies…they stay, they watch, they “harrumph” and walk inside the house

I am a passionate storyteller using elements of horror and madness to show the real psyche of black women and girls who are suppressed by all elements of society. I delve deeply into the genre of black southern gothic, using primarily prose and poetry to convey the swampy South that is Florida. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and my heritage originated in Belle Glade, Florida. I now reside in Bradenton, Florida, where I am an adjunct professor teaching English 101 and a Librarian Assistant for the county library. I handwrite all my material, and I love every aspect of my pen going against the grain of paper. I love mysteries and researching things that are not meant to come to light, but they need to.
